The aim, however, is to <strike>help the elderly to<\/strike> <em>ensure that children<\/em> lead safe and <strike>independent<\/strike> <em>protected<\/em> lives.  <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Researchers are working on a &ldquo;<strike>health<\/strike> <em>safe<\/em> house&rdquo; so sophisticated that it will not only track everyday habits but also check weight and blood pressure and predict whether a person is at risk of <strike>a serious fall<\/strike> <em>child abuse<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Britain is one of the largest investors in &ldquo;tele<strike>medicine<\/strike><em>protection<\/em>&rdquo; &mdash; using <strike>medical<\/strike> <em>surveillance and monitoring<\/em> technology to help <strike>chronically ill<\/strike> <em>deprived<\/em> and <strike>older people<\/strike><em> indeed all children<\/em> to be <strike>treated for longer<\/strike> <em>continually inspected<\/em> at home rather than <strike>in hospitals or care homes<\/strike> <em>through visits by social workers or education welfare officers<\/em>.  <\/p>\n<p>&quot;The system, developed by <strike>GE Healthcare and Intel<\/strike> <em>Becta and the NSPCC<\/em>, uses sensors that track a person&rsquo;s behaviour and send alerts when unexpected disruptions or data are picked up.
