{"id":684,"date":"2007-04-11T11:38:08","date_gmt":"2007-04-11T11:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irdial.com\/blogdial\/?p=684"},"modified":"2007-04-11T11:38:08","modified_gmt":"2007-04-11T11:38:08","slug":"the-self-preservation-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irdial.com\/blogdial\/?p=684","title":{"rendered":"The Self-preservation Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> I have been wondering about how the removal of DRM from the EMI catalogue could be interpreted (aside from the &#8216;EMI: gods or geniuses?&#8217; waffle), given the continued poor state of EMI&#8217;s finances and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/GlobalHedgeFundandPrivateEquity07\/idUSN1041888420070411\">ongoing speculation<\/a> about the Warner group&#8217;s possible buy out of the &#8216;major-independent&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>As a going concern EMI looks increasingly ropey, removing DRM could be a short term attempt to boost sales and increase share activity making an earlier [Warner] bid more likely.<\/p>\n<p>Warner is very much pro DRM by its removal EMI could be attempting to tempt a buyer that will reimpose DRM in order to stifle the spread of (official) unrestricted download material.
