Can antibiotics make you even iller?

I think so! They seem to sap some energy from me and make me sluggish and sad. I wonder why? I would try to make sense of it but I really shouldn't pretend to be a doctor.

That audiophile article was HILARIOUS. There is definitely a difference between people who listen to money and people who listen to music.

Went to a friends tonight and they had brought a couple of Nigerian films made by Famsota productions/ Famous Otakponmwen that they found in a bargain bin for £1 each. I've never seen one before and would recommend seeing one for the experience. All the dialogue is not spoken but shouted and they have the funniest titles and story lines. One that they brought was called 'The Virgin Prostitute' in which a woman hears of a potion that makes men impotent when poured in their drink and the rest of the film is her doing exactly that.

Can antibiotics make you even iller? I've just had the worst week for AGES in terms of black, craggy depression, fatigue, horrible tastes in my mouth and general pessimism of the highest order. Nearly everything I normally do has left me cold, all my food tastes horrible, I can't work very well, and I do not feel the most useful person in the world.

I DO feel a whole lot better than I did this time last week, but I can't help thinking these flipping antibiotics are not really my friend.

Audiophiles aren't into listening to music, playing it, dancing to it, or any of the things you are supposed to do with it - although oddly enough they also aren't into objective reality, hard facts, critical reasoning, or any of the left brained activities that one would suspect people who can't dance would be interested in.

Did anyone else see this programme last night?

It was funny to see Mark giving arms dealers a lift to the arms fair held at Docklands, in a minibus and then pass a bucket round to collect 'alms for Iraq'. I've never seem so many people take such an avid interest in their shoes at one time. The 'Gulf sale' signs outside the Rafidain bank was pure genius!

And then the 'Arms dealer bingo' on the DLR...
"So we’re gonna have people going round now with the cards, its 50p and eyes down on arms dealer Iraqi bingo!”
" And the first number out now is ...all the legs…sixty. …There we’ve 46 – all your cluster bombs, 46. …
Number 7 – ak47"

While people think my city has a hockey team or something, actual cool people there are making wicked water power solutions and do the most advanced diabetes research in the world. Go Edmonton!
Too bad our art community sucks.

Maybe the water electricity could be the kickstarter for the Free Energy MEG.

The latest Wire kept my attention whilst ill. Some great writing on Miles Davis, and interesting pieces on Basic Channel and Peaches. And a 30-track CD. All mixed in with some liberal doses of pretentious codswallop. Nice 'epiphany' of John Cage's book, Silence. Has anyone read it?

A Norwegian woman setting up shop as a witch has been awarded a government grant worth 53,000 kronor ($7,500; £4,500).

Lena Skarning, aged 33, was given the money because her business plan - according to officials from the regional development fund which gave the grant - was "pretty reasonable and well thought out". Her business, Forest Witch Magic Consulting, will tell fortunes, teach magic tricks at corporate seminars, and offer potions and creams to cure for problems ranging from sleeplessness to bad habits.
A condition of the grant is that she has promised not to try any spells that might hurt anyone. Ms Skarning acknowledged that the success of the Harry Potter books might well have helped her gain official acceptance, but said there was one essential difference. "I'm the real thing," she said. "I'm Norway's only state-backed witch."
Habitually dressed in black and with a white cat, Ms Skarning said she had been a "nice witch" for 13 years. But she said she had only recently come up with the idea of applying for the grant after she attended a seminar on entrepreneurship. "I'm an ordinary witch who came up with an original business idea," she said.

Bleaugh,

Just back in work after a week off with a chest infection. I had a miserable 4 day session in the middle of it spent on the sofa lunging with satan's most powerful coughing fits and windmilling swathes of kitchen paper to alternately catch evil secretions and mop my feverered brow. Thankfully the righteous torpedoes of antibiotics have begun their attack...and I am back.

I am on the up (floating away in the breeze). I have immense empathy for lonely old people at the moment. Flu twice in a month - I'm usually never ill (it's been years).

this looks interesting

It's amazing how much sweat you can produce when sleeping, I awoke and my upper half was drenched - twice. it can't be healthy must be this damned flu. Honey, lemon, ginger, nice soothing music (The Hafler Trio Cleave: 9 Great Openings). At least I'm getting hungry again.

the skin does get cold. like it's dead or something. omfg goth omg
That site is fascinating. I find the most interesting passages to be the ones about unacknowledged or unfulfilled fetishes. They're big problems, so to speak.
Sometimes the site gets repetitive though - to know their are so many sentiments exactly the same as is each other... it's kind of scary.

eBay is funny. There are many, many bidders who do not accept 0 or 1 transaction users. That cruddy Dave Clarke is why.

Alison, I got engrossed in those confessions the other day and the saddest thing was how many were like that.

'Same story, different words'.

check the bid history

Does that happen a lot on eBay? I don't really use it but do want to sell off my old vinyl [mainly fillers, etc]. A friend recommended 'discogs.com'. Anyone have any experience of it?

those confessions are SO interesting...
like this person:

I have such an intense anticipation of rejection and opening up emotionally that I have basically accepted the fact that I will live the rest of my life alone. What is scary is that I might not actually mind that much.

Poor thing - how can one live with no love and physical intimacy? the skin must get so cold....

"Of all the items on the menu, soup is that which exacts the most delicate perfection and the strictest attention."
Auguste Escoffier

Well here is the mans Potage Parmentier (I am making the soup for dinner - and it smells so good)

3 Big leeks, chopped finely - steam them in butter
add 750 gr cubed. potatoes (3 big baking ones would do it) and 1 liter stock (chiken or veggie)

When the potatoes are soft, mash the soup with a whisk and then through a strainer

add cream and maybe some butter

granish with chopped chives.

Easy!
