NASA warming scientist: ‘This is the last chance’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Exactly 20 years after warning America about global warming, a top NASA scientist said the situation has gotten so bad that the world’s only hope is drastic action.

James Hansen told Congress on Monday that the world has long passed the “dangerous level” for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and needs to get back to 1988 levels. He said Earth’s atmosphere can only stay this loaded with man-made carbon dioxide for a couple more decades without changes such as mass extinction, ecosystem collapse and dramatic sea level rises.

“We’re toast if we don’t get on a very different path,” Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute of Space Sciences who is sometimes called the godfather of global warming science, told The Associated Press. “This is the last chance.”

Hansen brought global warming home to the public in June 1988 during a Washington heat wave, telling a Senate hearing that global warming was already here. To mark the anniversary, he testified before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming where he was called a prophet, and addressed a luncheon at the National Press Club where he was called a hero by former Sen. Tim Wirth, D-Colo., who headed the 1988 hearing.

To cut emissions, Hansen said coal-fired power plants that don’t capture carbon dioxide emissions shouldn’t be used in the United States after 2025, and should be eliminated in the rest of the world by 2030. That carbon capture technology is still being developed and not yet cost efficient for power plants.

In 1971, James Hansen helped create the model that told us of the coming ice age. When that didn’t happen, he turned to global warming. He’s a very intelligent nut job.

The guy’s a putz. He’s been going back and changing the data so it fits his story better. Let’s keep it scientific then: Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is a theory (hypothesis). It is an unproven theory. What you do with theories is put them to the test with scientific observations. Let’s see what data points we now have:

  1. Average annual temperatures have not surpassed 1998 (NOAA)
  2. Average annual temperatures are now trending downward since 1998 (NOAA)
  3. Ocean temperatures have not risen since 2000 when the 3000 Argo buoys were launched. The buoys even show a slight decrease in ocean temperatures
  4. The Arctic ice froze to February levels by December, there are 1mm more sq km than before (previous was 13mm sq km)
  5. The Arctic ice is 20cm thicker than “normal” (whatever that is)
  6. All polar bear pods are stable or growing (NOAA/PBS)
  7. Mount Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming, rather “sublimation”
  8. The Antarctic is not “melting”, it is growing in most places, the sloughing off at the edges is normal as the ice mass grows
  9. The majority of the Antarctic is 8 degrees below “normal” (again, whatever that is)
  10. The coveted .7 degree rise in temperatures over the last 100 years has been wiped out with last years below “normal” temperatures
  11. Al Gores film was just deemed “propaganda” in a court of law in the UK as many points could not be substantiated by scientists
  12. It was also just reveled that some of the footage in Al’s film was CGI. The ice shelf collapse was from the movie “The Day After Tomorrow” (ABC)
  13. One of the scientists that originally thought that CO2 preceded the warming has now found with new data that the CO2 rise follows the warming (Dr David Evans)
  14. Storms have become less frequent and less severe (many GW alarmists are now backtracking these earlier “theories”)
  15. Droughts have always happened and always will
  16. The greenhouse effect is real, our small contribution to it cannot even be measured
  17. Several publications, including those that are “warmist” have recently written that the “natural” cycles of the earth may “mask” AGW. Give me a break.
  18. 31,000 scientist have signed a petition against AGW!

With China (1 new coal fired plant coming on line each week) and India spewing millions of tons of CO2 in to the atmosphere, along with the rest of the world increasing their CO2 “production” over the last ten years, these results should be impossible.

Now, please be so kind to give me one piece of observable evidence that man is causing “global warming”.

Well, Chicken Little has struck again. I don’t know why people listen to this man, who keeps predicting that the sky is falling.

I guess the sun, the ocean, volcanoes and other things have very little bearing on global warming. Of course, what do they blame the “global warming” on other planets besides earth?

If one takes a look, there are over 31,000 scientists who have signed up stating they do not believe in this “religion.” This entire process is nothing more than a way to gain more power and to provide another way to raise taxes. They are watermelons. Green on the outside and red in the middle. When communism fell, the ones who believed in communism looked for another organization that had similar views, and they found one.

Me, I would rather live in this century than go back to the dark ages that Hensen and his group are advocating. However, even Al Gore doesn’t believe in this. After all, all the Green improvements he put in his house saw his energy bill go up by around 10%.

Just because they print the letters ‘NASA’ before his name this does not make him right.

Obviously.

And as for ‘carbon capture technology’ there is already a highly efficient form in existence, with near zero deployment costs, astonishing efficiency and many useful byproducts. The name of this technology is ‘Pale Flint’.

This amazing ‘Pale Flint’ technology is actually a form of biotech that works on the nano scale. Pale Flint can absorb CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and return O2 (Oxygen) with an exceptional level efficiency, whilst providing byproducts of the process that can be used in the fuel, chemical, clothing and food industry. Pale Flint is a ‘fire and forget technology when used in its most simple form; you simply deploy it by dropping it, and in a very short time scale, it begins to absorb CO2 and produce O2 without any supervision or interference from anyone. It also does not need to be connected to a man made energy source to run….astonishing!

Pale Flint is here, right now, and if it is deployed aggressively, can soak up all the CO2 man is producing in a very short amount of time.

If you think that is something you need to do.

Its grim up north… Global dimming is, I am afraid, very real.

The Sheffield Telegraph has an article in its letters section attempting to rebut the contents of a copypasta anti AGW chain email… that they did not know was a chain email, but instead thought came from BLOGDIAL.

The staff of this ‘newspaper’ hired second year A-level geography students (all good uniformitarians no doubt) at the Norton and Peaks sites of The Sheffield College as the sleuths to debunk a letter from a ‘Mr Cavanagh’ who obviously likes to think what he likes to think, outside of the brainwashed groupthink that the Sheffield Telegraph and some students at The Sheffield College prefer to cling to so closely.

To double check our research we ran our initial findings past Dr Julie Jones, Lecturer in Climatology at The University of Sheffield, who kindly commented upon and clarified a number of points that we had made. Dr Jones is part responsible, along with thousands of other scientists, for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 4th Assessment Report which was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

This is like going to a bank robber and asking him wether or not he did the job. The IPCC and its findings have been widely discredited; the ‘Hockey Stick’ junk science has now been abandoned by the UN itself. These intrepid students could have contacted some of the 31,478 scientists who dispute the science behind the AGW hypothesis, but of course, their minds are made up, and they are not doing science, but are instead, defending a dogma.

These people are are the same as those who defended Spontaneous Generation for centuries, or who tried to ruin the reputations of the two men who understood that high temperature superconducting material should be possible. For those who do not know, Spontaneous Generation is false, and High Temperature Superconductors are possible.

One has to wonder, do these students even know what the scientific method is? Do they know what a scientific hypothesis, a scientific theory and a scientific law are? Probably, but they are not applying that method correctly if they believe that AGW is proven.

This post is constructed of three parts. The first is from USA Today, which is linked at the bottom of the blockquote.

The second part after the first ellipsis is taken from an AGW rebuttal that was circulating widely on the internets.

Everything after the second ellipsis is written by us. And in case you missed it, ‘Pale Flint’ is an anagram of PLANT LIFE, and the links in that passage all point to information about photosynthesis. Sigh… ‘Global dimming’!

Why would Russell Cavanagh pass off these arguments as his own?

Mr Cavanagh is citing the questions of another person, and this is not in any way unethical, unlike the junk science behind the IPCC and the governmental moves to re-order society around a pointless carbon tax and carbon trading schemes. It’s difficult to find out who the original author of those words is, which is why we did not put a link to the original source.

It didn’t take long for sharp-eyed student, Alice Flint, to work out that Mr Cavanagh was guilty of plagiarism. Citing the source http://irdial.com/blogdial/?p=1115 Alice revealed that none of the points are the author’s own work but come, verbatim, from the rather bizarre Internet site Blogdial. How to describe this site? Well, its IP host hails from Stockport but no other details exist on the site of the names of the authors of its content. It appears to be obsessed by government oppression, argues for home-schooling, low taxation and has direct links to sites arguing for slacker gun control. Basically it is a site for the libertarian right. We also feel that Blogdial has a cavalier attitude to scientific verification and is big on abuse of, well just about anything it doesn’t like, which almost certainly now includes us.

The internet works for something it seems!

BLOGDIAL is not ‘an internet site’ it is ‘a blog‘. The names of the authors of each post are underneath the titles of each post. Blogdial is not in any way ‘bizarre’ it is either correct or incorrect in any matter that is not pure opinion. There is no need to try and describe the nature and character of BLOGDIAL or use terms like ‘bizarre’ in this or any other matter of science; the only thing that is important is wether or not each post is correct or incorrect in matters of fact.

We write some posts about politics, this does not convert into our writers having an ‘obsession’, any more than a geography student is obsessed with geography because she is studying it. Of course, these pejorative words are used to try and discredit the post and BLOGDIAL in general; this is what the Spontaneous Generation / AGW crowd do as they circle the wagons when someone questions their doctrines. It is why so many scientists were frightened of challenging the AGW dogma; they knew that the knives would come out and they would lose tenure, for example, and have their careers destroyed.

We argue for Home Education, and the reasons for this should be obvious especially in this context; quite apart from the aspect of the rights of human beings, it is infinitely preferable as a parent to have a child that can think for itself, rather than have a child that is brainwashed by a state run school. Home Education performs this brilliantly, which is why millions do it in the USA, people are turning to it in great numbers in the UK… which is why there are moves afoot to ban it. I would not expect a second year A-Level student to understand the motives of a parent with a school age child.

There are over 16,000 posts on BLOGDIAL. We have linked to every conceivable type of information. The reason why they say, “direct links to sites arguing for slacker gun control” is that they are trying to imply that the anti AGW arguments are not arguing the science, but are instead part of ‘right wing’ big business agenda to keep polluting the world. A conspiracy theory if you will.

And what on earth is a “direct link to a site”? Do they mean a hyperlink? It seems that the force of computer literacy is not with these students; lets hope that they are not in charge of creating meaumeau Says:

‘Left wing’ and ‘Right wing’ is just playschool political jargon any way, it tells you nothing about the reality of what people’s principles are, unfortunately even most adults don’t think outside of those terms.

It’s a bit like when you were first taught about electron ‘rings’ in science class and then a couple of years later the same teacher says actually forget all that and learn about s, p, d orbitals. And so on.

By way of historical contrast: “More at Blogdial. More communist than the communists.”

And get this comment on the article itself:

If the article really does come from a group of University students, then I think a D- grade is the best they can expect for this “scientific investigation”.

There are so many trivial but important errors, blatant cherry picking and inconsistencies. For example, in point 1, the evidence from NOAA is summarily dismissed as a credible source yet quoted in point 3 in support of your view.

Point 2 is perhaps even worse “scientific” reporting. The link is supposed to “prove” your claim that temperatures have risen since 1998, but the big black line on the main graph labeled “Global Temperature Record” on that link clearly shows temperatures dropping over the past 8-9 years.

The other points are equally extremely poorly researched and full of snide “ad hominem” attacks on any data or person that doesn’t support your viewpoint.

On second thoughts, make that grade an “F”: Propaganda is not, and never should, be part of science.

If they were Home Educated, I assure you that their …. oh you KNOW what I am going to say!!!!!
