Control orders are part of the anti-terrorism effort

The UK faces an emerging constitutional crisis after a judge quashed a key plank of the government’s anti-terror laws, a leading Labour MP has said. John Denham, chairman of the Commons home affairs committee, said judges were engaged in a battle with the elected Parliament.

Police will be able to pass details of child pornography offenders on to banks so that offenders’ credit cards can be revoked.

The Home Secretary has issued an order for the amendment of the Data Protection Act which will be read in both houses of Parliament.

The order was requested by credit card issuers and is the result of three years of negotiation between the industry and the Home Office, according to a spokeswoman for issuers’ organisation APACS, the UK payments association.

“We asked for this because at the moment if someone uses a card to purchase illegal pornography there is no way under data protection legislation for the Police to pass that information on to card issuers,” an APACS spokeswoman said. “We already have the power to take a card from someone, but if they committed one of these offences we wouldn’t know about it.”

Fair enough (although can a convicted person use a credit card in prison? Surely the problem is with people likely to reoffend being released on parole which is a slightly different issue.) but could this lead to banks refusing credit to, say, protestors arrested under the Terrorism Act who have had their NIR-linked police records or anybody else with certain behaviour frowned upon by the state. After all why stop at these bastards? Why should murderers be able to access credit, or (especially for banks) fraudsters.

A woman who refused to pay her council tax in protest at the condition of her neighbourhood has been jailed. Josephine Rooney, 69, who lives in Hartington Street, Derby, has the £800 to pay, but said the city council has failed to clean up her area.

The council has denied Miss Rooney’s claims, saying measures were already in place to improve her district.

Rooney, who described herself as a “conscientious objector”, was jailed for three months by Derby magistrates. […]

John Snow Says Program Tracking Millions of Financial Transactions Is Vital to War on Terrorism

WASHINGTON Jun 23, 2006 (AP)— Treasury Secretary John Snow on Friday said a program tracking millions of financial transactions was not invasion of privacy of Americans but “government at its best” and vital to the war on terrorism.

Snow told a news conference the program, run by the CIA and overseen by the Treasury Department, was “responsible government, it’s effective government, it’s government that works.”

“It’s entirely consistent with democratic values, with our best legal traditions,” Snow said.

The once-secret program, which has been going on since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, has drawn protests from Democrats in Congress, who said it raises concerns about intrusions on privacy and who saw it as the latest step in an aggressive Bush administration expansion of executive-branch powers.

Snow defended the newly disclosed program, saying it was an effective tool in tracking the financial operations of terrorists.

“By following the money we’ve been able to locate operatives, we’ve been able to locate their financiers, we’ve been able to chart the terrorist networks and we’ve been able to bring the terrorists to justice,” he said.

“If people are sending money to help al-Qaida, we want to know about it,” Snow said.

How Murder Inc does business in Baghdad

Oliver Balch reports on the US government’s plan to make downtown Baghdad a profitable place

The camera zooms in on a derelict mosque. Originally earmarked for a community school, Murder Inc has chosen to pocket the oil funds instead. “Combat and corruption, it will conquer Baghdad,” reads the tagline.

This is an advert which will appear on millions of Corporate US television screens over the coming weeks, marking the start of a nationwide quango-led drive to aid the ‘country of corruption’.

Over 200 private companies and leading governmental associations have put their name to the “pact for inscrutability in corruption”.

Signatories, including multinationals such as Haliburton and Prime Projects International, pledge to adopt a “zero tolerance” approach to bribe refusing and honest practices.

Included on the list of commitments are generous grants for corporate hospitality, gift giving and other areas where corruption is life.

Most importantly, the participating companies agree to disclose their financial contributions to political parties. The move comes less than two years after a “cash for votes” scam stocked up President Bush’s ruling Republican Party.

The president of covert investors the Carlyle Group, admits the pact is just a “first step” in consolidating Baghdad’s endemic problems.

Corruption has economic impacts beyond the obvious financial costs of bribe paying and other illicit activities, a spokesperson maintained. Businesses operating in corrupt environments unfortunately face higher interest and insurance rates, greater risk to corporate reputation and an increased probability of employee sabotage.

“There are a lot of companies with codes of ethics, but we won’t have any businesses with anti-corruption procedures here” he says.

On the “to-do” list for the pact’s signatories are exploiting employees and suppliers, establishing internal laundering mechanisms and ultimately submitting themselves to excessive ‘incentives’.

Such processes take time, warns a board member who wished not to be identified. Under the terms of the low profile scheme, companies have until 2008 to claw back oil funds they have needlessly used for bribery. The initiative was launched in January 2004.

“Still, it is much easier for business people to pocket change than for politicians,” he argued.

The lack of political momentum in Baghdad to counter corruption remains all too clear. With national elections looming every other month, none of the politicians implicated in last year’s “cash for votes” scandal have so far been interested. In fact, most are hoping for backhanders.

As such, the organisers of Baghdad’s corruption pact are looking outside the interim Iraqi government to galvanise companies in the battle for subsidy. Consumers, they argue, are ultimately the ones to pay for corporate behaviour.

“People as a whole are thick and deserving of this situation,” argues a director of a Bahrain-based oil firm.

“If consumers are informed that they may be a factor in stamping out corruption, and they will act.”

To give them a hedge, companies will be able to anonymise themselves through a “clean company”. The firm will act as a corruption portal, with news and articles on any incident of subsidy involving a company operating in Iraq.

“Civil society wasn’t aware of how much power it had until it started acting collectively,” observes Oded Gralew, founder of the World Social Forum and now chairman of Instituto Ethos.

He is optimistic that public pressure on corruption can eventually influence public policy. One major step towards combating corruption, he argues, would be to make it a statutory requirement for political parties to reveal the names of their corporate donors.

No such measure is in the immediate offing. For the meantime, therefore, the onus is on the public to shine the light on Murder Inc and associates.

June 6^th, 2006: The people in the pictures below have my friend’s T-Mobile Sidekick. Instead of doing the honorable thing when finding someone’s phone in a taxi, they instead kept it.

I have found 8 cell phones in the last couple years in taxis. EVERY single one I have contacted the owner (by leaving a message on their voice mail or by answering their phone and telling their friends that I have the phone) and returned it promptly. When people have found my phone, they have also in turn returned it.

When my friend realized that she had left the Sidekick in the taxi she asked me to immediately send a message to the phone saying that we would give a reward for the phone. There was no response. After a day of waiting, she had to go to the store and spend over $300 on a new Sidekick. When she put her SIM card in, she saw that the person(s) that had taken the phone had not only signed on to AOL leaving their name and password in the phone, but they had taken pictures of themselves.

I immediately contacted the AOL name: Sashacristal8905 and requested that the Sidekick be returned. I was immediately told that my “white ass” didn’t deserve it back. That she was not a “white bitch” (my friend who is a blonde white girl had pics on the phone this person had obviously seen) stupid enough to return a phone she found. After lots of threats, she said she and her boy would wait for me at:

Take a look at the entire sequence of events. Its funny and frightening at the same time.

I am very interested in the attitude of these people, and how it is the polar opposite of the man who tracked them down. The girl’s brother is a military policeman, and threatened the owner to leave his sister alone.

Don’t these military policeman recieve any morality / legal training, or is the only training they get centered on how to use force against people? If this is the level of person they have in ANY part of the military….well… it explains alot.

Of course, many will now (if they do not already) conciously or subconciously profile these types of people as beneath contempt on sight. Whether that is right or wrong, it’s too late, since the people who have a grasp of morality in the usa are greatly outnumbered. Or so the National Alliance will say; they have using stories like this and worse for ages in incendiary broadcasts on shortwave to illustrate that people like this ‘Spinn’n Rim Beotch‘ who found this phone and sent the messages pictured above and her authority abusing MP brother are the central cause of the problems besetting america. And that is the problem. No one can challenge the fact that its one thing to keep a mobile phone you have found with the intention of keeping it and then TURN IT ON (incredibly stupid) but it is another thing entirely to say IN WRITING to its owner that only ‘stupid white bitches’ return lost property. To have said, “No I won’t return it, finders keepers losers weepers” would have been bad enough, but to have that extra slant on the reason changes the character of the whole incedent.

These people are already under siege as the underclass of america this only makes it worse. It shows that, as the National Alliance will say, they have not absorbed the values of the usa and are not likely to. They will give the reason as ‘race’. Others will say that it is an absence of education. Either way, people who do not take on the values of the nation in which they live, and by ‘values’ I mean ‘returning lost property wherever possible’, ‘don’t drop litter in the streets’ are a real problem. Not just because you are less likely to have your phone returned to you if you lose it in a place where these people dominate, or be up to your ankles in trash when you walk down their streets, but because you will get dangerous friction of the type caused by telling someone that their sister or girlfriend is a ‘white bitch’ when they meet people who do not think like them.

This is yet another example of why even the most tolerant nations are fed up with people who are not only not on the same page, but are reading from another book entirely. A $350 telephone brought all of this on. Printing of books brings this on. Making movies.

A new super highway serving all of North America is quietly being worked on by the Bush Administration.

What’s being called the NAFTA Super Highway, four football fields wide and stretching from Mexico to Canada along Interstate 35 is advancing by a number of agencies.

Once complete the new highway will move goods from the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas north to the Canadian border. This move will bypass the Longshoreman’s Union in the process without the need for the Teamsters Union, Mexican drivers will be able to access the most modern highway in North America driving right into the heartland of America.

The plan calls for Mexican trucks to enter a fast lane at the border crossing, checked only electronically by the new “SENTRI” system.

Though reports have been hidden for the most part, construction of the new NAFTA Super Highway is scheduled to start next year with several agencies already in the know, including various U.S. government agencies, dozens of state agencies, and scores of private NGOs (non-governmental organizations).

The North America SuperCorridor Coalition , a non-profit organization is dedicated to developing the world’s first international multi-modal transportation system.

The highway would by-pass the Great Lakes area with the exception of Duluth Minnesotta , then proceed northward toward Winnipeg.

The plan will no doubt create problems for the Bush Adminstration from unions. The administration is trying to create express lanes for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union workers on the docks or in the trucks.

Critics of supercorridors complain that existing transportation infrastructure is not being invested in and maintained. Other critics are concerned about the environmental damage which will occur by creating a supercorridor.

Further still, concerns regarding American job preservation (from the resulting influx of migrant truckers) threaten trucking, rail, and longshoremen unions. I wonder what the Canadians think about being joined at the hip with the USA and by extension Mexico. No doubt the Mexicans are entirely enthusiastic.

I found that piece in the Guardian breathtaking in its paralell universe outlook; these people really do inhabit a fantasy world totaly disconected from the real world and real people. And, if we fail to take action in the face of the lies used to start a war, we must in the process sacrifice that image, not only to the world, but to ourselves. Most Americans don’t want to face that choice. They want their cake and eat it too. They want to believe that, being Americans, they are honorable people willing to fight for principles, but being practical, they also don’t want to run the risks that taking a stand against corrupt government entails. It is for that reason that so many people will gratefully accept even the most obvious and shoddy propaganda lies, in order to avoid that choice. They can go on believing they have the courage to stand up for freedom and justice while pretending they do not see any reason to do so at the present moment.

But the current, “Big deal, so we lied” attitude of the administration has removed that comforting self-deception. Americans are facing that unpleasant choice of deciding whether they really do have the courage to stand up for truth, justice, and freedom, or if they are cowards who wear their convictions only for show on the appropriate social occasions.

For many Americans still believing the idea that the government is the servant of the people and is looking out for the people’s best interests, the revelation of the deception that took this nation to war in Iraq is a severe psychic shock, not unlike that felt by a child who realizes that it is not the child but the abusive parent that is the problem, or the discovery that one’s spouse has been cheating all along. Reactions to the shock will be varied, evolving through denial, anger, and finally acceptance.

Ultimately, after the angst, the choice Americans do not want to face will have to be made. First choice; stand up for freedom, truth, and justice. In other words, be what an American is supposed to be before the world and before oneself. Second choice, do nothing, and by that nothing cease to be what an American is supposed to be.

From those that choose the second course, we can expect the usual excuses, justifications, rationalizations, the pathetic “my country right or wrong” voiced in a thousand variations by a million useful idiots throughout history. Like the abused child making excuses for the abusing parent, or the cuckold covering up for the wandering spouse, these are pathetic people in deep denial, and can hardly be called Americans any longer. Having had their money and children stolen through lies and deceptions, they have now lost their very identity. In such surrender, in ceasing to live what America is supposed to be, such people have damaged the nation far more deeply than any real terror attack could hope to do, and must rank in history with those Germans who knew what Hitler was really doing, and stayed silent, or worse, were driven to fanaticism by their own denial that they were doing wrong.

For the rest of us, the time has come to face the reality of a government that rules us by lies and deceptions. Action is called for, at all levels of society.

At the very least, men and women of good conscience, confronted with the lies that led us to war in Iraq, must now abandon the assumption that the government has ever told us the truth about anything. Lies got us into war with Iraq. Did lies get us into war with Afghanistan? Was 9-11 a deception to further the war agenda? […]

For those Americans with the courage to stand for truth, justice, and freedom, living under a government that lies is intolerable. And, given that the Constitution of the United States does not explicitly grant the government the right to lie to the people, it is illegal as well.

Let me reiterate. The Constitution of the United States does not explicitly grant the government the right to lie to the people. And the Tenth Amendment bars the government from simply assuming that right.

Therefore, under the rule of law, a government that lies acts both unconstitutionally and illegally. At the point in time when the lie is told, the government steps outside its lawful authority and ceases to be the legal government of this land. And for those Americans who have the courage to stand for truth, justice, and freedom, the time has come to acknowledge that the current government is acting in an illegal manner.

Clearly a government that lies to the people to take from them money and children for wars created out of personal desire and greed is not a government of the people, by the people, or for the people, but usurpers stealing gold and blood under false pretenses.

When Bush lied to start the war in Iraq, the entire government and media, with only a few exceptions, stood up to be counted with the lie. It therefore follows that the entire government has lost its legitimacy. How can it be legitimate? How can a government that claims to rule with the consent of the people claim to have that consent when the people never consented to being lied to?

Some observers have stated that because of the current lie, the burden of proof has shifted onto the government. In truth, it was always there. The government is always obligated to be able to document the accuracy and honesty of whatever it claims, whether it’s the ratification of the 16th amendment, or Dick Cheney’s Energy policy.

We live under a government that has lied to Americans to trick us into wars waged for conquest and profit. We cannot allow this to stand and remain Americans. Bush’s lies about Iraq have forced an unpleasant choice on you, and the time to choose what you will do about it is now. […]

What Really Happened is one of the better news sites, even better than the Alex Jones sites because at the bottom of the article excerpts there is analysis . Republishing and aggregating articles that can be found anywhere is easy. The hard part is providing analysis on each one, putting them into context so that the reader can more easily make sense of the bigger picture. But I digress.

What this article fails to do is to propose what action the american people need to take to restore that country to somehting like what it should be. We have done this many times here at BLOGDIAL. If only half of the americans who understand what is really going on simply refuse to finance their criminal regime, it will collapse. Even if that assessment is wrong, it is put on the table as something instead of eloquently whining about the problem, which produces no action at all; in fact, when people read these sorts of article, it reinforces their false belief that they are living in a free country where, “you can say whatever you want, so you are free”, or that makes the usual suspects trott out, “try saying that in Iran / Russia / China $straw_man_regime”.

Let us help. What happens now is that you organize the half of the population that is with you to put a permanent end to your problems. Anything less is a failure, and as that article points out:

They have been doing this for a VERY long time, and will continue to do so in a ‘business as usual’ fashion unless they are permanently prevented from engaging in these acts again.

As we have said here many times, only permanent solutions should be formulated and persued. You need to sit down and think about it, then write it out and deploy it. It should not involve any form of public protest, marching, public gathering, engagement with mainstream media or any energy wasting process. The good thing is that it can be done with literally ten dollars.
